Some native people living in south Iran believed that if someone got sick (a djinn) possessed their body, then the ritual celebration of “ZAR” was practiced to return the body to health and heal the sickness. This ritual event has roots in native African religion. In ancient times those who practiced “ZAR” came to the south of Iran as slaves. In other words the “ZAR” event is a continuation of black African beliefs.
